The first diagnosis of the study authors says: Pure product placement is yesterday. Attitude and commitment are becoming a key mark of quality for brands. Today’s consumers want to build positive relationships with the brands they buy from. In order to take advantage of this as a company, the authors of the study recommend positioning on socially relevant topics and a “call to activism”.

Trend 2 – The business with the influencers

The authors of the study see the second trend as cooperation with influencers on Instagram and Co. Marketing with social media stars is probably one of the most important topics of the present and probably also in the future. The focus is on high-quality content and emotional storytelling.

Influencers not only impress with sometimes enormous communities, but also with professionally prepared content. The advantage of the influencers lies in the authentic storytelling, which is communicated at eye level with a high reach of the community.

Where blunt discount codes used to suffice, these credible stories are now in demand, as the study states. Brands that previously aimed for rapid growth via such discount codes could therefore have a difficult time in the future.

Trend 3 – Live Streams

Point number three: live streams. According to the study, live formats in which social media users can react directly to content are a particularly profitable and authentic means of influencer marketing. In this way, any advertising characters on Instagram, Twitch and Co. could send unfiltered, detailed “briefings” to their followers, as the authors of the study write.

The proximity and interactivity of the real-time formats offer new opportunities in online marketing: from authentic storytelling to almost unlimited creative freedom.

Trend 4 – Vertical Short Videos

Trend 5: Metaverse and NFTs

Certain companies would now recognize the commercial value of ideas like the Metaverse or NFTs, such as as an investment opportunity. For example, the brands Nivea and Nike are already offering their customers NFTs. This is one of the most exciting areas, where there is a lot of movement and there is an opportunity to make a name for yourself as a first mover.
